Character: Kiyoshi Teppei
Series: Kuroko’s Basketball
Character Age: 17
Canon: In a middle school, five basketball players, aptly named the Generation of Miracles, formed an unbeatable team that took the championship title for three years in a row. The sixth “phantom” player and the protagonist of Kuroko’s Basketball, recognized by the Generation of Miracles, splits away from the team, and joins Seirin high school. From that point on, he and the rest of Seirin’s basketball team fight on the court, determined to beat the Generation of Miracles and become the number one team in Japan.
Kiyoshi Teppei, founder of Seirin’s basketball team, is considered an Uncrowned General: a person that, if not born a year later, would have been part of the Generation of Miracles itself. Despite having such a reputation, Kiyoshi prefers not to be considered someone that special, and even becomes irritated when people call him by his nickname, “Iron Heart”. He has a laid-back demeanor, and often ends up throwing off a serious conversation with the silliest remarks; it’s been said that everything he says is a “blooper”. When in a conversation, he’s quick to misunderstand metaphors, and thus, tends to kill the mood. Kiyoshi’s priorities rest solely on being able to play basketball with his team, and he’s willing to sacrifice himself for that end. Finally, he is the type of person to repay evil with good, and the kind of person you’d definitely try to stay away from because he’s too dumb to survive.
Sample Entry:
Tell us about yourself in a few words.
Hmm, what should I say. Well, I’m Kiyoshi Teppei, first of all. I go to Seirin high school, and I love playing basketball. Actually, I’m the center, too. What else? I’m not really that great with bitter things... I’m looking forward to the training camp! That’s it, I guess. Oh, and it’s nice to meet you. You know, I’ve never met a real life zombie before. Does this mean extraterrestrial life really exists?
Why are you joining our happy community?
Well, this is where the Winter Cup finals are going to be held, right? It’s warmer than I expected, and I don’t really see why they have to change locations, but this looks like a good place! I heard there was also a basketball training camp here. It doesn’t look like a place for a tournament, but it’s definitely got the training camp look! When I got the letter, I was really excited for it-- ah, but how long is it, anyway? It didn’t say in the letter, and I only brought enough underwear for three days...
Why are you a valuable asset to this camp?
Valuable asset? Hahaha, you make it sound so serious! Don’t misunderstand, though; I’m a great asset-- I’m pretty durable, right! And I’ve got plenty of stamina as a basketball player, so I’m good with manual labor. Just recently, I’ve learned a card game too, that’s valuable, right? Hanafuda’s a great game!
Do you think you are good in a crisis? Why?
Heeeeh... I can’t say I’d be good in one, but it’s definitely not helpful to be panicked in a crisis, right? I’ll do my best with whatever I can do during such a time, and I’ll definitely protect the team.
Do you consider yourself squeamish? Please provide an example.
Everyone’s got something they’re grossed out by. I didn’t really think I was squeamish, but after this horror movie I saw once... Ugh, just please, never let me near any rats! It’s scary just thinking about it!
Do you have any deep personal traumas you might inexplicably be compelled to share in this questionnaire? Please describe.
Wow, another serious question. This feels less like a training camp interview and more like a magazine interview. Haha, it's not, right? I'd rather not be publicized or anything, to be honest! Anyway, I can’t say anything really traumatic happened to me.. Ah, wait! You know that horror movie with rats I was talking about earlier? That was horrible! It seriously bothers me, even to this day!
Do you have a five year plan in mind?
Hmm... not really! The present is what’s more important to me, and what matters to me most right now is being able to play with everyone in Seirin this year. Whatever happens next year, or the year after that, I’ll worry about when it happens!
If you could choose to bring three objects to a desert island, what would you bring and why?
Well... I guess, water for one thing, since you can’t drink the ocean water. Do trees grow in desert islands? I want a deck of cards too, I suppose, since I need something to do when I’m bored, and basketball’s no good on sand. Hey wait, how long would I be staying there, anyway? I only brought enough underwear for three days, I tell you!
Can you perform a flawless headshot? If not, and if your life depended on it, how many hours a week would you be willing to spend on the shooting range?
Is a headshot a new basketball term? I knew it, this training camp was a good idea! What kind of a shoot is a headshot, though? Ah-- maybe you shoot the ball into the goal with your head!? Wow... I don’t think I could do anything like that! But if you’re teaching it here, then it must be possible, right? I’ll train hard! And I train like my life depends on it, with Riko being our coach, so this wouldn’t change anything. I like sleep though, so.. I guess it would be something like 14 hours a day? W-woah, that sounds brutal now that I say it! I.. I might really die! Nevermind! How about 40 hours a week? That's a lot, right? That's as many as four tens! What do you think, Director?
Character: Miu Kazashiro
Series: Kamen Rider Fourze
Character Age: 19
Canon: Amanogawa High School seemed peaceful until giant monsters in rubber suits decided to attack its students. Thankfully, an anonymous masked rider, aptly known as Kamen Rider Fourze, is there to save the day! Beneath that mask is a delinquent named Kisaragi Gentarou, who is determined to befriend of every single student in school. Eventually, the people Gentarou saves become his friends, and later on, his club mates in the unofficial school club: The Kamen Rider Club. Of course, who wouldn't want to join a club whose meeting room is a small space station on the moon?
Miu used to be the ultimate mean girl. As the head cheerleader of the school, she was popular, beautiful, a complete snob, and was revered by every single student as the Queen Bee. After getting into some trouble and being saved by Gentarou, she develops a softer side and stops looking down at everyone. She joins the Kamen Rider Club, wherein she dubs herself the club president, and later on, promotes herself as the chairman. Despite having softened up a bit, she still has a lot of pride in herself, but has become more friendly. She’s bubbly, has a lot of snark and spunk, and calls herself “an overconfident stuck up girl”. Overall, Miu is an incredibly headstrong woman, a natural leader, and is someone who would do anything for the people whom she considers important.
(Note: Miu was born to an upper-class family and doesn’t know much about certain common folk interests, eg. the taste of ramen. She also has a habit of saying "oops" when making a mistake, or if something strange happens, even if it has nothing to do with her.)
Sample Entry:
Tell us about yourself in a few words.
My name is Miu Kazashiro. You may call me Miss Miu, Miss Kazashiro, or Queen. I won't answer to anything else, so I expect to be shown some respect. You can’t just call me by my name, you know? We don’t know each other that well, after all.
I'm the chairman of the Kamen Rider Club. We're a secret club that protects Amanogawa High School.
… I guess we’re not a secret anymore. Oops!
Why are you joining our happy community?
Honestly, I thought this community would be on the moon. It would have been the perfect place for a camp! It's disappointing, but I guess we'll have to make do with what we have.
Understand that I'm not really here to "join". I'll only be here for a few weeks since our club will be having its training camp here. Don't worry, I'll make sure that everyone doesn't disrupt the camp's daily activities.
Our club will just be here for the facilities. I think everyone, not just Gentarou, should be able to run around and do something. I saw some interesting facilities and activities in the brochure, like… "Hide and Seek With the Purple Gorillas"— I think that's going to be really interesting, don't you think? We'll all be able to improve our endurance and speed. I also saw an activity called "Tuesday Soup Marathon", but we'll just opt out of that one. Though, is that the camp's special dish? Does everyone here eat it? What does it taste like?
Why are you a valuable asset to this camp?
Why am I not? I don't mean to boast, but I'm a really good leader. Even if I'll be new to this Camp, I'll easily understand the rules and the customs. And since my other club members are here, no one has to worry about keeping them out of trouble. I can do that for you.
And besides, I’m a Queen. Shouldn’t that be enough?
Do you think you are good in a crisis? Why?
I've experienced a lot already. The club gets into a lot of trouble, you know. And when Gentarou needs help, I'm always there, even if it might be dangerous. And besides, what good is a club president if she can't even keep calm and lead the team properly, right? So, if it wasn't obvious, the answer is yes.
What if the crisis involved the end of the world? Please explain.
Oops! Now how did I get into that kind of trouble?
Either way, I'll be good in a crisis, even if it involved the end of the world. I might not be able to turn into Fourze, but you can count on me to do something that will help everyone. If there’s anything I’m good at, it’s coming up with strategies that actually work. And if it’s making sure the everyone’s in high spirits and aren’t losing hope? You can definitely count on me for that, too.
Shall we make a new club for this? Of course, I’ll be the president.
