Character: AkaRed
Series: GoGo Sentai Boukenger Vs Super Sentai/Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger
Character Age: Unknown; appears to be a fully mature adult
Job: Mentor for Lovers of Spandex

Canon: For more than 30 years, Earth has been protected by teams of multicolored soldiers, usually suited up in spandex outfits, called Super Sentai. These brave warriors have faced a variety of foes over the years, ranging from terrorists and demons to evil robots and space invaders. While each team has their own unique set of skilled people and abilities, they all share a few common threads, such as the fact that practically every team has a Red warrior. And there are a few things are common between all 30+ Red warriors. They will put the lives of others before their own, they never give up on a cause or goal, and they all share the common wish to fight for and protect the peace of this world. With such a powerful wish being shared between so many strong warriors, it eventually gave birth to a living embodiment of their fighting spirits - AkaRed.

AkaRed is a brave man who is the last line of defence against evil, should the Sentai warriors become incapacitated in any way. With a strong sense of justice, he fights to protect his world as well as to uphold the freedom and justice of all good beings. While he may seem to be the ideal warrior, he is by no means invincible on his own. AkaRed’s true power relies on the sentai concept of teamwork, and he will help lead a team through their bonds and drive to do what’s right. He is sensible enough to understand that sometimes, one must bend (or break) the rules in order to fulfill one's duties as a Sentai warrior. However, his greatest belief is in the expectation that one will always do good for the sake of protecting one's home and loved ones. This may cause him to underestimate the darker side of human nature sometimes, and the results can be rather painful - much like a stab in the back.

Note: When Super Sentai make a dramatic introduction , they are usually accompanied by background explosions.

Sample Post:

Tell us about yourself in a few words.
I am he who embodies the red souls, Super Sentai...AkaRed!

...Do not be frightened, Mr. Braaargh. I assure you that such explosive introductions are not uncommon in my line of work.

Why are you joining our happy community?
I understand that those training here at Camp Fellowship of Universal Defense have been plagued by several types of monsters, ranging from wildlife that can spy on one’s thoughts to the wandering undead that now roam these campgrounds. I am also aware that these creatures’ leader is a giant sea demon called Marcy, who enjoys preying on the flesh of these young, innocent campers. To think that this has gone on for several years, with no one having stepped forward before to successfully stop this fiend and her monstrous hordes...that is truly unforgivable! I have come here, upon the Camp Director’s request, to help put a stop to this once and for all.

Would you consider it acceptable for anyone to break any of Camp's rules and regulations? If so, why?
It can only be acceptable if it helps save lives. For example, if a monster is weak to sugar, then it makes no sense to uphold the ban on sugar when the survival of so many are at stake. I'm sure the Director would understand having a small, one-time shipment of sugar being delivered to camp for such reasons - especially if it's after the fact. Even if she doesn't, I doubt any punishments would be severe.

What would you consider to be your “soul” animal and why? (this is for purely scientific purposes and will not have consequences during your stay at all. Trust us! :))
I do not understand how this correlates to any of the previous topics. Why would you ask such a question when there are far more important things to discuss? ...The Director requires it to be asked for every interview, regardless of the situation? That’s very weird...

What is your job here at CFUD? What do you think that means?
--Ah, yes. *ahem!* Upon request from the Director, I have arrived here to help recruit and train at least five people to become the new Super Sentai team. I must admit that it is a great honor to do so, even under such circumstances. However, I do question how my title is worded. Being part of a Super Sentai Team doesn't mean that you love to wear spandex all the time. It is merely convenient to use it as one of the core materials for one's battle suit, due to great flexibility, comfortable fitting, and amazing endurance.

What do you expect from the campers here?
I expect at least a few of them to be possible recruits for the new team as well. The Director has insisted upon laying out some requirements, and some of them do make sense. I certainly understand the requirement that one should have some training with martial arts, gunnery, or other weapons. However, why would she make it a requirement that at least one team member must be either "trigger-happy" or "idiotically brave"? And I also question some of these other requirements as well. "One must be clumsy and full of fail sometimes"? "One must be a stoic loner that needs to learn teamwork"? "All recruits should be able to make dramatic poses and spout cheezy lines"? "All camper-level recruits must be teenagers with attitude"? While attitude may occasionally help, and bravery is certainly needed, these other requirements aren't what makes one Super Sentai. One must also have a strong sense of justice, a caring heart to help aid and protect others, and the willingness to do whatever it takes to save this camp and all people residing here from the forces of evil.

Character: Mary Josephine Crawley
Series: Downton Abbey
Character Age: Mid-twenties
Job: The Center of Attention

Canon: An iceberg didn’t just sink the Titanic, but also the potential male heir to Downton Abbey; the title of Earl of Grantham; and the estate that comes along with it. Lord Robert Crawley, the current Earl of Grantham, now tries to find a suitable replacement heir. Above this matter are others that deal with the lives of Lord Crawley’s wife, mother, servants, and three daughters, particularly that of Lady Mary Crawley: the eldest and supposed heir to the estate. However, due to the fact that the fortune must be passed onto a male, Mary must be wed to the replacement heir in order to receive the inheritance.

Downton has quite the band of mean girls, with Mary being one of them. She’s selfish, arrogant, and very stubborn. As the eldest among the three sisters, she is prioritized by her family, much to one of her her younger sister’s chagrin. She’s not the type of lady who will take “no” for an answer, which is why she’s very bitter at the fact that her chance of inheriting her father’s estate has turned into an issue that is out of her control. Her weapons are her beauty, sharp tongue, and wit -- which she uses to grab people’s attention and get what she wants. She occasionally shows kindness, despite her claims of not having a heart. Deep down, however, Mary is just an insecure girl who wants to be loved and respected for who she is.

(Note: Mary had intercourse with a Turkish diplomat once, only the encounter had to end short due to his sudden death. In a state of shock, she wakes up one of the maids and her mother to help her bring the corpse back to his room.)

Sample Entry:

Tell us about yourself in a few words.
It’s usually a footman or a butler doing the introductions, but very well. You can’t always rely on other people, can you?

My name is Lady Mary Crawley, daughter of his lordship the Earl of Grantham— No, no, it’s Mary Crawley, not Marcy. You may refer to me as Lady Mary, Lady Crawley, or milady.

Why are you joining our happy community?

Oh, this wasn’t my idea. I was sent here on a vacation by my papa. Although, as far as I’m concerned, nobody really looks happy in this... community. You may think me spoiled for being an aristocrat, but do know that I’m not someone who will sit idly by while people are suffering. Come now, everyone, and let’s try to bring the positive side to this horrible facade of a camp. We can roast marshmallows, sing songs— those are usual camp activities, yes?

Do you think you are good in a crisis? Why?

What an uncomfortable question to ask. Do I look like I am applying for a job?

But if you really must know, as someone from Downton, most of the crises that occur relate to matters of inheritance. There have been several instances of servants causing trouble, but it’s not something that we, the Crawleys, cannot handle well on our own. As for my own predicaments, I am capable of handling anything that comes my way with grace. That doesn’t mean that I’m able to do everything on my own; I know when I need the assistance of someone else.

Would you be able to dispose of the flesh of the undead? How?

The undead... ah, yes... those moaning creatures by the entrance, yes? I don’t see any problem if the need for me to dispose of them myself arises. They all look quite despicable, but I hunt as a hobby. It will be easy.

Would you be able to dispose of the flesh of the dead? How?

That. . . That is not my job, nor will it ever be. I never have, and never will dispose of the flesh of the dead, thank you very much!

Are you lying on your previous answer?

. . . I see no reason to lie on any of these questions, and why should there even be any doubt? I pride myself in being as honest as possible, amongst many other things. My answer is a big fat “no”.

Are you lying about lying on your previous answer?
Oh, heavens! Why on earth would you doubt me? Do I seem like a liar to you? This— This is such a useless question. My word is true, now if we can proceed to the next question at once.

Do you find these questions increasingly unnerving? Why/Why not?

I do believe so! And to add to that, I find you to be increasingly unnerving, as well! I refuse to answer any more of these horrid questions. Please excuse me. This interview is over.

Character Name: Eren Yeager
Series: Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan
Character Age: 15

Canon: Over a hundred years ago, humanity had forced what was left of their kind behind large walls. Although they had no freedom in the outside world and thus little knowledge of it, they at least had peace. All for what reason? To keep out the Titans -- mysterious beings humanlike in appearance, they very well may be monsters when their sole desire seems to be hunting down humans and eating them. With little known about their origins or how to eradicate them for good, people were more than content to stay behind the safety of the walls surrounding them. Until one day, two unusual types of Titans managed to break through the outermost wall, killing thousands in the process and instilling fear into the people for the first time in a century.

At a young age Eren was always enamored with the idea of exploring the outside world, and believed people needed to regain their freedom eventually. And while he always intended to join the Scouting Legion -- a branch of the military that specializes in venturing beyond the walls -- it wasn't until he saw his hometown be destroyed and his mother killed at the hands of a Titan that he became hellbent on killing every last one out there. With that strong desire his determination never wavered through the years, gaining him a reputation of a reckless boy who, to some, was walking into suicide. All odds seem to be against him, yet somehow, he never loses his way. Sometimes, he speaks too bluntly for his own good. Other times, his hotheadedness is quick to spark and gets him into more trouble than out of it. But in the end, Eren is a well-meaning guy who's earnest and dedicated to his friends and comrades.

Tell us about yourself in a few words.
I don't know if this is the right time for friendly introductions, but my name's Eren Yeager. You can probably tell on your own, but I'm from the Scouting Legion, so if you could--

Why are you joining our happy community?
... Not interrupt me! Er, so, I was going to say, are you the guy who's gonna tell me what to do from here? With the way this going, I feel like I'm kinda being jerked around clueless by the higher ups, sending me off to some town in the middle of nowhere and all they've got to say on it boils down to "get rid of the problem"... I figured out what that likely was -- Titans, right? What else would it be? Then I show up and the so-called problem wasn't five meters, but five feet. So, if I can ask, you sure this is what I was supposed to come all this way for? I guess a Titan's a Titan, even if they're way smaller than I've ever seen 'em and kind of weird... Well, they sure wanted to eat me as much as one should, but I feel like there's still something else going on here.

Do you think you are good in a crisis? Why?
-- Huh? Uh, I mean, shouldn't it be obvious? Do you think I can't deal with -- with whatever else is going on? I told you, I'm from the Scouting Legion! That's all the answer you'd need, right? ... Don't start looking at me like that doesn't mean anything to you.

What if the crisis involved the end of the world? Please explain.
Are you just asking a bunch of hypothetical questions? There's no point in all of these! Besides, this is kind of extreme, even for a made up scenario. It's absurd to think anyone's gonna know what to do during the "end of the world" or whatever, and it's not like that's something we even gotta worry about in the first place. So will you lay the real crisis on me already? I know this isn't anything I can take my time getting to -- I can handle it!

If there was a good dog and a criminal both hanging from a cliff and you could only save one, which would you save and why?
How many questions do I have to -- Look, I'm tired of playing along with this, but if it's the last one then fine. What's this criminal convicted of, anyway? If they did something like steal an apple from a local merchant, then that's not a big deal, right? It's nothing worth letting him fall from a cliff. But if it's something a lot worse than that, well, you can see where that changes things. Good enough for you? Great, then let's get started on--

What do you expect from your camp experience?
Seriously? This is sounding more and more like an interview for something else entirely than anything relevant to what I came here for! You're not the right guy for this, are you.

Character: Edward Elric
Series: Fullmetal Alchemist
Character Age: 15
Canon: Welcome to Amestris, a military nation that uses the art of alchemy, an unusual science that allows you to construct and destroy almost anything. However, it is forbidden to use alchemy to bring people back from the dead. Two brothers who have broken this taboo travel the country in order to restore their bodies which was taken from them. Along their journey, they discover that Amestris and alchemy have more secrets than they ever knew.

Serving the country as the “Fullmetal Alchemist” is Edward Elric. Even though he's enlisted and considered to be a “dog” of the military, he acts abrasively to rules and authority, preferring to trust in his own instincts and intelligence. Brash, loud-mouthed and rude, Edward can be arrogant, as well as extremely blunt in his words and actions, especially when it comes to his (short) height. Despite these shortcomings, Edward is kind and helpful to those in need. Full of determination to achieve his goals, Edward believes in people and a better future. Just don't expect him to admit it.

Note: Edward has lost his right arm and left leg, which have been replaced by metal limbs called ‘automail.’

Sample Entry:

Tell us about yourself in a few words.
Hohh, is this really necessary for visitors to answer? Fine. Edward Elric, state alchemist. I'm here to check out reports of unusual incidents happening in this encampment and I won't leave until I get an answer. ...So let me in already if you know what's good for you.

Why are you joining our happy community?
I'm not joining anything, you asshole! Didn't you hear what I just said?! I'm here for business and I'll leave as soon as I'm done, you got that! Learn to listen when people are speaking to you!

Have you committed any crimes you were or should have been convicted from?
Is that really something anyone can answer honestly? Or do you expect the intelligence for every visitor to be ridiculously low? ...Hmph, I’ll give an answer. I paid for my crimes in full. Will that do?

If you could get away with committing one crime and suffer absolutely no consequences, what would you do and why?
... There's no such thing as “no consequences”. If you’re gonna commit a crime, then you have to be prepared to pay the price. I don’t think people can get away with that crap. We alchemists believe in equivalent exchange, which means to obtain something of equal value, something of equal value must be lost. There must always be a balance between sacrifice and success. Therefore, if I commit a crime, there will be hell to pay and I’ll deal with it.

If there was a good dog and a criminal both hanging from a cliff and you could only save one, which would you save and why?
Why do all these questions have to do with crime? Ugh, fine, whatever. I'd save the dog. I like dogs. I'm a dog of the military after all, which means I’m duty bound to see criminals tried for their crimes and to help dogs, I guess. Especially since I’ve still got two arms, even if one's made of metal. I can use them both well enough. There's no excuse for letting someone die in front of you, criminal or otherwise.

Can you swim? No. I get weighed down.
- Could you still do it under extreme distress? NO BECAUSE I GET WEIGHED DOWN.
-- While dragging someone else to shore? ARE YOU DEAF.
--- While something, let’s say a tentacle, tries to drag you under? WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS THAT.
---- How would you handle that situation? I WILL HANDLE THIS SITUATION BY PUNCHING YOU IN THE FACE YOU ASSHOLE!!

Do you think short statures might impact your enjoyment of Camp?
I’m going to end you for calling me a measly pint-sized shrimp!!

Mostly in! I abstained on Mary (I will watch this eventually) and voted Eren out.

Eren, you've definitely got a forceful voice but I was unsure of how dismissive he seemed of the issues in camp, hypothetical and otherwise. For one, I would have expected him to take on all comers. More specifically, I'm not sure why he wouldn't treat the zombies as creatures of interest? BUT I have only seen the anime so if there's a reason he wouldn't be interested in what looks like proto-titans... please don't spoil me but give me a heads up?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-30 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
eren apper o/

Nah, it's nothing spoilery. Now that you mention it you definitely have a point and I should have acknowledged it some more in the app! I admit I was struggling on balancing things out while writing it, so if it comes across that way it's entirely my fault. But I'll keep it in mind for the future!
a_natural: (you got me going.)

[personal profile] a_natural 2013-05-30 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
In on everyone except for Mary and Eren.

Eren, I have to agree with what Nezumi said above about how he sort of just brushed aside the issue of zombies and was like "why don't you tell me what the actual problem is." I think that regardless of how slow or short they are, if there were creatures that wanted to attack/eat humans, he would definitely be up for taking them down. Also, it kind of feels like he's throwing around being in the Scouting Legion as some sort of "look I'm in this awesome group so leave all of your REAL problems to me," which ties in to what I said earlier, and I just can't see him actually doing that. There's also this:

Are you just asking a bunch of hypothetical questions? There's no point in all of these! Besides, this is kind of extreme, even for a made up scenario. It's absurd to think anyone's gonna know what to do during the "end of the world" or whatever, and it's not like that's something we even gotta worry about in the first place. So will you lay the real crisis on me already?

As far as most people are concerned in AoT, giants breaking through walls and taking out thousands upon thousands of humans and having people continue to die daily is about as close to "end of the world" as you can get, I'd think. And for him to be like "it's not something we have to worry about so tell me the real issue" is really off-putting to me because I would expect the first thing out of his mouth to be "fight to survive." Full stop.

All in all, I feel like the voice just isn't there.

Mary apper here! Can I ask for crit as well?

[personal profile] a_natural 2013-05-30 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure! I will admit that I'm canonblind and only know DA in very peripheral sense, so I only have the canon section to go off of in terms of her personality. I kept expecting to see more sharp tongue and arrogance, and the first two questions were great, but the rest of the app actually read as her trying to act almost innocent in a way to me. How could you ever doubt me, etc. I also feel like the app sort of falls apart somewhat at the end when she gets flustered, which I wasn't expecting - again, because eldest sister, aristocrat, arrogance, etc. So the voice just didn't match up with what I had in mind, and I feel like more could have been done with the app to really bring out her voice and make it shine.

I also had a hard time actually reading through the double questions, too. Undead flesh/dead flesh, lying/lying about lying. Maybe because it's still early for me, but I had to reread those several times before I caught onto the differences, so the app was very confusing for a little bit there. XD;
