Character: Phil Coulson
Series: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Character Age: 48
Job: Surviving Hazards In Extremely Large Dungeons
Canon: Phil Coulson is a senior agent in SHIELD - an organization responsible for espionage, counter-terrorism, and world security. It protects the world from threats no one knows about and comes up with contingency after contingency in case of future threats. Coulson aids the Director of SHIELD in dealing with aspects of these contingency - from securing mysterious magical artifacts, overseeing their research, and supervising people (superheroes) who are likely to become assets.
Phil Coulson has all the workings of a regular guy doing an extraordinary job. He seems quiet and solemn but he has a mind that's constantly thinking of a dozen ways he can take down potential threats. Still, he has a dry sense of humor that appears in surprising moments and a charming side that most who work with him rarely get to see. Responsible, resourceful, and capable of remaining calm and collected in even the worst situations, Coulson's good at reading people and situations so he can manipulate them to his (the world's) advantage. He has a strong belief in doing good and he will do what he perceives will result in the best outcome even at the cost of his life.
Sample Entry:
Tell us about yourself in a few words.
I'm Agent Phil Coulson. I enjoy taking walks in the park and buying frosted donuts from convenience stores. They've been coming out with more flavors almost everytime I visit. The plain ones are still the best though.
Why are you joining our happy community?
I was told there are some new recruits in need of training here. I hear this place has some very unique... circumstances for a summer camp. And I see no reason to turn down a plea for help. If it doesn't work out, the zombies will still make for excellent apocalyptic scenario training.
Do you think you are good in a crisis? Why?
Yes. I'm trained in everything from armed combat to hostage negotiation. I have at least 2 years experience in herding people who don't listen and I can say that an angry mob is much easier to handle.
What if the crisis involved the end of the world? Please explain.
This information is classified.
Would you be able to dispose of the flesh of the undead? How?
It depends on the undead but television has informed me that fire tends to solve all problems. I'd like to test that.
Can you swim? Y/N
Yes
- Could you still do it under extreme distress? Y/N
Yes
-- While dragging someone else to shore? Y/N
Yes
--- While something, let’s say a tentacle, tries to drag you under? Y/N
It depends on what the tentacle is attached to.
---- How would you handle that situation?
As I said, it depends. If the tentacle is metal and attached to a giant robot piloted by a villain, I would suggest blowing it up with C4. If it's a scared octopus, I could keep it as a pet. If they're sentient underwater plants, a knife would be helpful. If it's a being from another universe, it may take all of the above and some outside help.
If there was a good dog and a criminal both hanging from a cliff and you could only save one, which would you save and why?
The dog. They're loyal creatures and don't deserve the trauma from a fall. Most of the criminals I go after would have survived the fall anyway.
Do you have a five year plan in mind?
It's a ten year plan actually. And it's classified.
If you could choose to bring three objects to a desert island, what would you bring and why?
My favorite book, a water bottle, and a reading light for when it gets dark. Someone will find me eventually.
What is your job here at CFUD? What do you think that means?
Surviving Hazards In Extremely Large Dungeons. It's an... interesting word play on my current place of employment and possible foreshadowing that I'm walking into a trap.
