Character name: Ikenami Ryuunosuke
Series: Samurai Sentai Shinkenger
Age: ~21
Job: Camp Water Fountain

Canon: For generations, the Shiba clan has been standing tall against the demon general Chimatsuri Doukou and his armies of Gedoushuu. These monsters terrorize people and use human sadness to raise the water level of the hell river Sanzu, trying to make it flood the human world. Shiba Takeru is the 18th clan head, and has sworn to protect humanity against this threat, along with his team of loyal Samurai vassals, called the Shinkengers. Each have their own element, colour and strengths, and as they fight together and tackle challenges before them, they grow closer and stronger as a unit.

Ikenami Ryuunosuke is possibly the most loyal and dedicated of these vassals. Fiercely devoted to the Shiba clan, Ryuunosuke spent his whole life training in preparation to serve them, gave up his dream of becoming a kabuki actor and proudly took on the role of ShinkenBlue. In battle, his skills are on par with his lord, enough to land him the spot of second-in-command. Ryuunosuke can be rather overzealous and tactless, wears his heart on his sleeve and tends to overthink things, only to dish out self-punishment in case of mistakes. He’s often pointing out flaws in his companions’ work as well as his own, and raves about the importance of striving to become better (amongst other things), as training is part of who he is. Being raised traditionally as a samurai and vassal, devotion to his lord has always been an important and integral part of his life to the point where when friendship goes against duty, he becomes conflicted. Despite that, he values and respects his teammates and friends highly, acknowledges their strengths, and would lay down his life for them if needed, even if he’s occasionally hasty with judgements.

Sample:

Tell us about yourself in a few words.
Ah, yes! My name is Ikenami Ryuunosuke, part of the Shinkengers and vassal to Lord Shiba Takeru! Among my responsibilities beside the duty of servitude towards my lord, I also fight to protect people from the Gedoushuu together with everyone else in the Shinkengers! I enjoy rigorous training and believe in keeping a healthy life and optimistic outlook. It’s very nice to meet you! I am positive we will get along just swell!

Why are you joining our happy community?
I heard this was a training camp called C.F.U.D., Camp for Unabashed Dancers, so I decided to come and investigate this! With such a marvelous name, it surely has to be an extraordinary location! I will make sure to learn as much as I can about different types of dancing. Perhaps I can snap up a few ideas for— eh? What is that sign? “Camp for Unimpressive Dancers”? … Ahaha, there must be some mistake. I am certain the pamphlet read “Unabashed” and not “Unimpressive”. —What do you mean, this is the place? How on earth did I read that incorrectly? Haaah, this is terrible. I had already started replying to your questionnaire and taken up your precious time too. I apologize profusely for the confusion! It was really not my intention. But I am willing to make up for it! I will continue with this survey, and maybe consider joining.

What do you expect from your camp experience?
I expected a dance training camp for achieved dancers. Somewhere to learn and better my abilities! Not this… this, ah, this kind of place! Are you certain this is a camp for the fine art of dancing? The inhabitants look highly suspicious, to be honest. I’m afraid I’m not too familiar with that shambling walk... they almost look dead on their feet! While I admit practice is the steady pillar on which we support ourselves in our lives, sleep and food is also important to keep your health! …I would love to help! But I am afraid I cannot stay for too long. This place was not entirely what I expected. Just a little, ah… well. Unconventional.

I cannot leave? Are you that eager to teach whatever knowledge you possess? Why if so, I’d be delighted to return the favour!

Why are you a valuable asset to this camp? Are you going to teach us something fun?
Well now that you’ve asked, let us embark on a journey into knowledge about the terrific art of Kabuki. But it is far from an “unimpressive” artform. Kabuki is a classical form of Japanese theater mainly played by dancing. Often called “The Art of Singing and Dancing,” it’s a very powerful and beautiful way to express and tell a story! If you want to learn, prepare for a tight schedule! Only with a lot of training and dedication can one hone one’s skills properly! Though we should start out carefully. Your campers look rather frail...

On to another subject, can you swim? Y/N That was a strange turn of topics. Why yes, of course I can swim! It wouldn’t do well for someone with the water element not to be able to handle the wet! Ahahaha! I cannot say I’m a regular practitioner of swimming, but I enjoy it if I have the opportunity.
- Could you still do it under extreme distress? Y/N I’d do my best to overcome any challenges put in my way! That is to say, what kind of distress are we talking about? If there are strong currents, I wouldn’t advise going into the water in the first place unless there was a really good reason to. Safety first!
-- While dragging someone else to shore? Y/N Oh. Well then, a perfectly acceptable reason! Yes I would. I couldn’t leave someone to drown like that, that would be awful.
--- While something, let’s say a tentacle, tries to drag you under? Y/N A… tentacle? A monster? Gedoushuu! Obviously, I’d take it on and fight against it, either to get free or barring that, stall for time to get the rescue to safety!
---- How would you handle that situation? I would fight! I couldn’t call myself a Shinkenger if I would not be able to battle any ill meaning creatures out to harm people. And of course they’d be ill meaning if they were trying to prevent me from saving some poor chap from drowning!

And now that you’ve offered your services, what is your job here at CFUD? What do you think that means?
I have a job here? That was not what we were talking about—! . . . Water Fountain? Now look here, I do have humour and can laugh at the occasional jest, but that was purely uncalled for. I am afraid I cannot provide you with what you are asking for. Again I will have to ask you to show me the way out. I am ShinkenBlue, Ikenami Ryuunosuke! My skills are used to serve the Shiba clan and protect people. Not as a tool for amusement, and certainly not as a garden decoration!

Hey Ryuunosuke! I'm a little confused as to why you put your character's age at approximately 21 if you wanted to app as a counselor. Since the rules say "Campers are characters that are or appear to be age 21 or under, while counselors are age 22 and older," why not go with "~22"?

That said your app was adorable and it's an in from me.

Oops. I've always figured that it was 21 and up! My bad, that part went over my head sob. Thanks for pointing it out! That said... he's pushing to 22 at the end of the series. S-so he should be counselor aged. ;w;b
