Character: Nagisa Hazuki
Series: Free! Iwatobi Swim Club
Character Age: 16
Canon: Free! is an anime about swimming, teamwork, and shirtlessness. But mostly swimming and teamwork. (But also shirtlessness.) When three former childhood relay teammates end up at the same high school, they decide to start up a new swimming club, hoping to compete against--and reconnect with--an old friend-turned-rival.
Nagisa, the resident breaststroke specialist, was the one who both came up with the idea of forming the club and the one who finally managed to rope in an unsuspecting fourth member, mostly through sheer persistence and over-enthusiasm. With his seemingly endless energy and lack of respect for personal space bubbles, Nagisa is a big personality in a small, bright, bubbly package. He's talkative, open and friendly with strangers and friends alike, and isn't afraid to speak his mind--he can be blunt and impulsive, and rarely takes no for an answer. Despite his occasional teasing, he's an earnest, sensitive person who cares deeply about his teammates, although they sometimes seem a little overwhelmed by his intensity.

Tell us about yourself in a few words.
A few words? Ehhh, I feel like a brand new transfer student! It's always hard having to make a good impression in such a short amount of time... Well, if you're curious, you can always ask more questions later! Nagisa, first year high school student, Leo, favorite food: shortcake! --How was that, was it short enough? Should I have said it faster?
Why are you joining our happy community?
Oh! I knew I forgot something! What I meant to say was, "I'm Nagisa, and I'm here to be your swimming instructor! Let's all work hard, okay?" That's much better. But now that I say it out loud, "instructor" seems so stiff and official... Let's call it tutoring! For the record, though, I meant what I said about my favorite food, so keep that in mind! You want to stay on your tutor's good side, don't you? Aha, I'm kidding, I'm kidding! Mostly.
Anyway, I thought volunteering here would be a good way to spend my break! This way I won't get out of shape, and I'll be able to help motivate a new generation of swimmers...! That's pretty romantic, don't you think? But we're going to start with the basic-of-basic-of-basics, so don't worry. I'll be gentle!
What do you expect from the campers here?
Dedication! Swimming is a whole-body, whole-mind sort of sport, so you should be ready to concentrate and start training yourself physically and mentally with everything you have! ... That's the kind of thing a coach would say, anyway, and then they'd probably go into some complicated explanation about diets, and drinking enough water, or something like that. But I don't really keep track of that kind of thing, so whatever! You can eat whatever you want! I won't tell anyone if you have ice cream for breakfast. The dedication part is important, though! It's okay to swim casually, but if you really want to be able to do laps and everything, getting into shape is hard work. Usually there's lots of jogging and weight training on top of learning all the different forms in the water... Hmm, that all sounds a little intimidating, doesn't it? That's no good, I don't want to scare anyone off. Maybe I'll leave that off the posters and just write, "Come swim with us! It's fun. ♥" The rest can be a surprise!
What do you expect from the counselors?
Support, of course! You're supposed to be role models, so don't think you can get away with just standing around supervising! You have to lead by example and take a hands-on approach, or else the campers will get into all kinds of trouble and lose their motivation and start skipping their activities and we can't have that! Who knows what kind of trouble they might get into? Not that I'm speaking from experience, of course! The point of a summer camp is to do all kinds of outdoorsy adventure-y things, so it's a counselor's job to encourage that, you know? Especially since you have wifi here. That's really risky! You know how us kids are these days! You don't want the campers to think you're less interesting than the internet, do you? That would be pretty embarrassing, so make sure you try your best!
Besides that, though, I heard one of the counselors was supposed to get together some models to help grab people's attention and convince them to sign up for swimming lessons, but... Even if gorillas are the mascots here, should they really be the ones in bikinis? That's not sexy at all.
Character: Jean Kirschtein
Series: Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan)
Character Age: 15
Canon:
Humanity must face a new threat to its existence. After one hundred years, the illusion of peace is shattered when the Titans breach one of the walls protecting humankind. One of the few points of hope for reclaiming what has been lost can be found in the Scouting Legion, a group of brave individuals willing to fight the Titans for human freedom. Though many have lost their lives, there are still people willing to sacrifice their lives for the betterment and protection of the citizens.
Jean is a cocky smartass--at least, that’s what he comes off as at first. Even when he knows it’s better to remain quiet, he’s prone to speak whatever is on his mind. He makes no pretense about why he wants to join the Military Police for a safe and secure living. Despite his intentions to live out a safe life, events lead him to face the threat head-on with the Scouting Legion. It was pointed out to him that he’d make a good leader, not for the fact that he was a prodigy or top of the class, but for the fact that he able to understand the weakness of others. For this fact, he is able to judge a situation and make snap decisions to accommodate for shortcomings.

Tell us about yourself in a few words.
Name’s Jean Kirschtein from the Scouting Legion. Some might say I’m self-serving-- Well, okay, fine. I can be, but at least I have proven my worth under some dire situations. If you’ve got any other questions about me, just ask. I’ll probably answer what you need to know.
Why are you joining our happy community?
From the looks of it, I don’t see why you’d call this a “happy community.” Either way, I came on orders, but I wasn’t told much about why. From what I’ve seen, there doesn’t seem to be much of a threat here other than those undead. What the hell. Kind of a fucked up place, if you ask me. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what my future orders are and wait on standby for now.
Why are you a valuable asset to this camp?
If I have to be. I’ve been trained not only to fight Titans, but in hand-to-hand combat as well. Never thought it’d come in handy, outside of settling a few scores, but I guess it might be useful with some of the rumored monsters around here. I’ve survived in worse conditions than this Hell camp and I’ve learned to adapt to bad situations. Man, this sucks. I keep going from one shitty situation to another.
Do you think you are good in a crisis? Why?
In my experience, if you aren’t, you end up dead. I’ve seen too many of my comrades die from this. But how could they-- we-- know what to expect? Training only gets you so far when compared to the real deal. And one bad call out there can cost so many people their lives. So, maybe not.
Do you consider yourself squeamish? Please provide an example.
There are times when you can’t afford the luxury of being squeamish. When your comrades are dying around you and you have to suck it up, being squeamish doesn’t matter. Giving names of your fallen squad members and hauling their dead bodies to be burned isn’t exactly something I’d like to be doing, but if you don’t? Others could die from disease. That’s that. Not something you gotta enjoy.
Do you find these questions increasingly unnerving? Why/Why not?
What I find more unnerving is the fact that that bird keeps talking to me. I expected some strange things outside the walls, but I didn’t know birds that talked right into your mind were one of them. Never in my life had I felt like kicking an animal’s ass until this moment. I doubt anyone would miss them if a few went missing.
Do you have a five year plan in mind?
You’re kidding, right? I barely can see past tomorrow, at the rate things are going. I’ll just be glad if I don’t die by the end of the week. I probably would have had one, had I been in the Military Police.
