Character: Basco Ta Jolokia
Series: Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger
Character Age: ~28
Job: Pasta chef (Only on Mondays and every other Wednesday)
Canon:In the Legendary War, 34 teams of Super Sentai fought against the invading Zangyack Empire that was trying to conquer the entire universe. In a final attempt to stop the attack and defend the Earth, the Super sentai combined their powers to defeat the invading armada but, as a result they had lost their powers. Those powers were then scattered throughout the universe in the form of keys and the spirit of the Red Rangers, AkaRed, recruited Basco and Marvelous to help gather those keys. With these keys, the two were promised that they would be able to get the mythical greatest treasure that was worth as much as the universe itself.
The devil in disguise, Basco is a charmer with a disarming smile and he speaks with lighthearted, teasing words of affection. However, his true nature will remain hidden behind those smiles and cute nicknames until he decides to stab you in the back. Basco is a greedy, manipulative pirate turned privateer with only one goal in mind; to get the Greatest Treasure in the Universe all for himself. He does not trust others in the slightest because, for all he knows, they could be just as untrustworthy as he is. Despite his opinions, he will use others as pawns and will resort to any dirty trick he can to get himself further towards his goal because all relationships he builds can be traded for something better if the opportunity to trade them arises. After all, to gain something you need to get rid of something.
Sample Entry:Oh my. I’m expected to cook food for all the other poor souls who got trapped here out of mutual camaraderie? It is really not my occupation of choice but, being stuck here means I won’t be able to get the Greatest Treasure in the Universe so cooking is better than doing nothing at all.
It truly is not that difficult at all for me to cook for all the people trapped in this camp and it would be a pleasure to do so. People have to eat and it would be terrible to come to a situation where I would have to watch these people fight among themselves to get a meal or be forced to starve for the day. It is a shame that there is no prize for getting second place in a two person fight sometimes. By not providing enough food, all that it would show is exactly who is willing to do anything to get ahead, even if it is just for a meal. It’s simply self-preservation and no one wants to rely on someone who can’t even put up the effort to get a snack before someone else takes it.
But of course, if there were just not enough food for everyone, it would be completely accidental! Working by myself does become quite stressful without anyone to help in the preparations. Thankfully, all those zombies wandering around are more than willing to offer their assistance in the meantime. How helpful of them! The lot of them are rather slow but give them a few scraps of meat and the job will be done. I’m not going to refuse that kind of help, even if it is from rather simple minded creatures. Now the real question is this: would they be willing to gang up on that squid if I make the simple statement that I want to make calamari? Offering a plan of attack, some words of encouragement and good luck should be enough to motivate them to try. Maybe throwing in a frozen steak for each of them would sweeten the deal.
Oh dear, it looks like they weren’t that much of a challenge at all for that squid. What a shame. Hope no one minds that it will be raining zombie limbs for a while. Perhaps I will have better luck with the gorillas if I go to them bearing a peace offering of bananas.
Character: Illumi Zoldyck
Series: Hunter x Hunter
Character Age: 24
Job: Camp Acupuncturist
Canon: Hunter x Hunter is, consequentially, a series about a boy named Gon and his winding quest to become a Hunter and track down his father of questionable character. The important thing here is that through befriending fellow Hunter exam applicant Killua, said boy garners the attention of the entire Zoldyck family, who just so happens to be in the business of taking peoples’ lives for a living. The eldest of the Zoldyck children (five in all) is Illumi; cat-eyed, manipulative and monstrous in his own right.
And while his manipulative spirit manages to keep Killua from passing the Hunter’s exam the first time, he effectively fails to keep Killua from leaving the family home later after his capture and is told to leave him go for the time being. It’s a sick sense of love he harbors for his family and his ideals are questionable, but he has the power to enforce them, with grand intentions of manipulating those he cares about as a means to ‘protect’ them. He’s quite the complex character, sometimes going in circles and other times contradicting himself. But other things are simple.
He’s dangerous.
Sample Post: To ask such a thing… But then… anyone who would entrust their life and health to an assassin, former or otherwise must certainly be an interesting person. Or else they are a large fool. Either could be interesting.
Acupuncture in and of itself isn’t a difficult concept. It’s slightly different than the work I’ve used them for previously, but certain concepts remain the same. Anatomically, the points of insertion are important. However, it is a bit different using them on others as opposed to myself… It will certainly take a bit of practice to perfect. And yet, I can’t be held accountable for any… minor accidents… that may occur. The concepts are a bit foreign. It is based on the flow of energy after all, something a bit… intangible.
But of course… you won’t die. No that would be far too easy. It may sting a little, however. Or maybe a lot.
Oh well. I suppose I should consider a few test subjects… Preferably stronger, quieter types… I’m not all that fond of loud, screaming types.
…Honestly. An assassin taking up such work… Is this what my years of hard work will come to? Mother and Father would be very disappointed.
…oh no, you’re doing an excellent job. Very good work. Just continue standing there a little longer. [That would be zombie volunteer number one: the pincushion. His head, torso and legs are covered in pins for Illumi’s use.]
[Zombie volunteer number two is the one underneath Illumi being stuck with pins currently, like a large, non-living doll.] I’ll need living specimens soon. I can dissect, prick and stab these things all I want, but I’ll never get real results. I wonder if animals would do… The wildlife here is strange but the gorillas might be similar enough to humans to get better results. Hmmm… or perhaps… the new campers might do. They could use a warm welcome. They should be grateful that they can be of use so early on.
Character: Daniel
Series: Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Character Age: Unknown, but probably around mid-twenties.
Job: Child Safety Technician
Canon: What happens when you combine elements of the Cthulhu mythos and survival horror games, but take out the guns? You might get something like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, where the primary objective is simply to get through the castle alive. Daniel, our protagonist, gives himself amnesia in order to find the mental fortitude to progress in the castle. (It makes sense in context.) He has his work cut out for him—hideous monsters patrol the castle, a creeping shadow pursues him, everything’s falling apart, and he’s afraid of the dark. What’s a guy to do?
His goal is to get to the inner sanctum of the castle while following the trail of memory breadcrumbs his journal pages provide. He’s jumpy and quick to frighten, but he’s a determined little cockroach of a man. He is knowledgeable and his problem solving skills literally keep him sane. But Daniel is also easily influenced by others and has an insatiable sense of curiosity. Naturally, in a horror game, this quickly serves to ruin his life.
Sample Entry:
Sir or Madam, if you would be so kind, please stop screaming. Those things outside will hear! I don't know who you are, or if you're a sign that I'm going mad, but screaming will not get me out of this stall.
I'm here with a just cause, I assure you. In my pocket I have a note from an Elizabeth Sayre informing me of a task I am to perform. For whatever reason, she is entrusting me with the safety of children. If I complete her request, maybe she can tell me more about this "camp" I’ve found myself in.
Ah, but that's not why I've hidden myself in these stalls. While traveling through the swamp, I was beset upon by those abhorrent remnants outside. The darkness provided enough cover for most of the journey, but I could not stay hidden in it forever. My lantern alerted some of them to my presence, and I hastened to escape. I found myself here, hoping to find a place to hide. And it worked! I entered the stall of this lavatory, and it was as if I was invisible. When one of those things came inside, they had no idea I was in here. But now, I can’t open the latch. I am trapped.
I've tried everything. Well, as much as I could do with what I have. My crowbar has long since been discarded. Not even my hammer and chisel worked on the latch. Nevertheless, I wrote a quick note of this with what little paper I've found here, although it doesn’t take to ink very well.
It's dark...and so cold. Slipping my foot into the bowl didn't help. I can already feel my mind beginning to decay. I thought you might have heard me, but it seems the screaming has begun anew. The sounds were so soothing before, like a soft, angelic whistle. How I miss them.
Please, if anyone can hear me, let me out of here! And to you screaming: Whoever or whatever you are, I never meant you any harm. I promise you, I'll go if you would only release me. I'll leave you at peace and be on my way!
Character: Isabela
Series: Dragon Age II
Character Age: Unknown, early to mid 30s.
Job: Trousersnake Charmer
Canon: Dragon Age II is the story of Hawke, a refugee making a home in Kirkwall following the family’s very narrow escape from darkspawn. Despite starting out having to work a year in indentured servitude, Hawke manages to go from refugee to Champion of Kirkwall by solving difficult problems and making very dangerous friends.
Isabela is one of Hawke's many dangerous companions. A former pirate captain and smuggler, she still keeps her taste for shiny and valuable things despite no longer having a ship or crew -- a taste that gets her into trouble often, but she finds it just as fun to escape. She’s a woman who knows what she wants, and doesn’t hesitate in the least to go after it. Isabela is also very laid back and open; her friends would consider her too open at times, as she delights in teasing them and in turning every conversation around to relate to either her sex life, or theirs.

I’ll admit I’ve never been one to even want to demonstrate this for a crowd, but being told I’d get the Jewels of Sayre in exchange... that’s almost too easy to just pass up. Well that, and the fact that such a large crowd of you don’t know what you’re doing is just breaking my heart. But don’t get the wrong idea, I’m doing this for the glorious family jewels. So let’s try to get to this somewhat quickly -- not too quickly, since it’s unforgivable to pull out too early. But I’m not lingering here long; this place may have fuck in the title, but I can just sense the repression in the air.
Alright, so charming the wild and wily trousersnake --or one-eyed anaconda, take your pick-- isn't nearly as difficult as you'd think, I promise. You just need practice. Awkward, awkward practice. Er, no, you aren't going to need any instruments. Well, not that kind anyway. That’s a bit outside the scope of this course. I've never known a single one to be brought to attention solely through the power of song; taming these snakes requires you to get your hands dirty if it's to be any fun. Watch and learn... and before you ask, I don’t need any volunteers for this, just watch my hands.
So, you'll want to grasp the body lightly, so you don't hurt it, but still firmly, and stro--Mm? What now, we've barely even started, let alone gotten anywhere good! If something’s already unclear you're going to have bigger problems than-- oh. So you meant... charming actual snakes. Actual snakes that like to nestle in your clothes. That's... not nearly as fun. Disappointing actually. Hm, well I'm fairly sure the same principles would apply to that too. Just ignore where I was going with the end of that, and it'll probably be fine. Just, give it a shot, experience is the best--
Ooh, ouch. That... that is some terrible technique. I sincerely hope for your lover’s sake that you either make up for it in eagerness or that they have extremely low standards. You may want to bandage that before giving it another go-- Or not. ...If you lose your hands I still get paid, right?
Character: Kasumi Goto
Series: Mass Effect (2)
Character Age: Unknown, likely in her mid-twenties.
Job: TMI Compiler
Canon: The Mass Effect universe revolves around one Commander Shepard and their efforts to get the galaxy’s collective butts into gear in order to fight off an impending attack from the Reapers, who want to wipe out all organic life. In order to succeed, Shepard needs a team of varied talents, one of those apparently being thievery. When your job opportunities include not only stealing the most valuable artifacts from Earth but from cultures across the galaxy, it takes a particularly skilled and enigmatic individual to become the best. Kasumi's skill at getting past the tightest security systems around and avoiding capture results in her being recruited by Shepard to help the crew of the Normandy in their cause... so long as they don't mind her learning all their secrets, of course.
Despite the stealth required for her chosen profession, Kasumi herself is a perpetually upbeat and personable character. Like anyone else on Shepard's crew, she's had her share of tragedy, but it doesn't stop her from always having a smile ready, cheerfully sticking her nose in everybody's personal business, or writing questionable haiku about her attraction to another crew member. She's an exceptionally talented observer and collector of information, but she does it as much out of genuine interest in the people around her as she does for the tactical advantage it could bring.

Don't think I didn't notice the barrier gave in by itself before I was finished with it. I know what a job well done feels like, and that wasn't it. Since you’re the Director, I would have thought you’d want to see me demonstrate my skills first. Still, thanks for the invitation! No hard feelings about messing with your equipment, I hope. A set-up like this is like leaving a wrapped present unattended on Christmas -- I just couldn't leave well enough alone. I doubt you intend for me to have such an easy time leaving, but I can worry about that later. The promise of a challenge is always exciting.
I do have to commend you on your security system, however. I thought I was familiar with all of them, but this is entirely new to me. I’m honestly surprised it works! You get points for eccentricity, if nothing else. It does make one wonder, though -- what exactly are you guarding? Especially as there doesn’t seem to be any kind of security on the inside. Lots of trees, mud, actual wood cabins and something with very large tentacles, but absolutely nothing that can shoot, zap or otherwise maim you -- besides the inhabitants, of course. If there’s nothing here worth taking, then I’m going to be really bored. I guess the get-back-out-through-the-barrier challenge isn’t going to wait after all.
…On second thought, I’ve never seen a community quite like this before, and I’ve spent time in some pretty strange places. It looks like it’s a human colony, only without any modern technology, and some of the people who appear to be human clearly aren’t after a closer look. Why would any species that associates with humans not already be part of galactic society? Intriguing, to say the least. This place feels like it’s teeming with secrets, and that would actually explain the oddly named position you offered me. I thought you’d tell me the meaning when I arrived, but now I see it was just you being archaic. TMI, really? A little behind the times, aren’t we? But I get it now -- it's my other skill set you’re after. Lucky for you, that one’s just as fun. After all, something doesn’t have to have a physical form in order to be valuable.
But I don’t need to tell you that, do I?
Character: Fujiwara no Sai
Series: Hikaru no Go
Character Age: over 1000 but appears as a pretty, young man
Job: Ghost for the carnival Haunted House
Canon: “Hikaru no Go” follows Shindou Hikaru as he tries to catch his rival and become one of the best professional Go players. Go is a deceptively simple game where each player tries to surround the other’s pieces, or stones, with his own. Highly competitive, its fans take it as seriously as life or death- in Sai’s case, literally. Hikaru is introduced to Go when he is possessed by the ghost of Fujiwara no Sai, a young Heian nobleman who drowned himself after being framed for cheating during a crucial game. Hundreds of years later, Sai appears before Hikaru, still driven by his love of Go and a desire to play the perfect game: the Hand of God.
Sai is a master of Go, skilled both at playing and at drawing out the potential of challengers and students alike. As a teacher he can be harshly demanding or patiently kind as the situation requires, but those situations require Go. As befits a Heian nobleman, Sai is highly emotional and dramatic, and his personal barometer is how much Go he’s played: if refused a game, Sai becomes cranky and petulant, crying over how mean it is. But give him a game or show him something new and he will be all bright and cheery excitement. Beyond the game, Sai is sensitive and attentive, sympathetic to others’ troubles even when his own are ignored. Over the course of canon, Sai’s understanding develops, growing away from a spoilt attitude to a wiser view. And so he finally passes on, realizing that his role wasn’t to achieve the Hand of God himself, but to prepare and inspire Hikaru and the new generation of players.

Ohh, woe is me...! After a thousand years, just when I had finally been sent on my way to my heavenly rest, I am sent back to this world! Of course I wanted to stay a little longer, though I had done all I could... but what did I do to deserve being made to haunt a place like this? I would be glad to haunt a Go club or even a student center, but there’s nothing here...! No Go at all! There are only cobwebs and some purple monkeys in costumes, and even if they are go-rillas, that is not enough!
There is more to Go than merely a name. It is passion, drive, and dedication. To face a challenger across the board is a battle like none other! But there can be none of this if you do not have a board or an opponent that knows how play...! So if this job title is all I am to be given, then it is this job title I will use. I will put the “Go” in “Ghost,” and teach the ghouls to be more, to be go-houls! No longer will they shamble around without real meaning to their lives, and rather than beg for their longed-for brains, I will have them develop their own.
For our boards we shall use lines scratched in the dust and for our stones we shall use... stones! Now you, you may have the honor of being my first pupil. Do not roll your eyes and shuffle your feet, come and sit! It is a privilege very few have had, and every one of my cherished students have become strong players in their own right. But if you will continue to groan at me, then I suppose I will have to make an example of you: I will sever your head from your body with my play, and you will—
AHH ahhhhhhhhhh it came off! I did not mean that so literally...! It really came off...!!

All in except for an abstain on Illumi. Illumi, I just . . . can't . . . really place my finger on it but I'm just not sure. The voice isn't necessarily bad, and I know he's got to be difficult to write an app for, but I am just not sure '^'

Doesn't Illumi use his needles on other people? He used one on Killua to control him and uses them on people in the new chairman election arc iirc. The part of his sample where he talks about using them on others confuses me as it makes me think he's saying he's only familiar with using them on himself. IDK talk to me if you want.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-26 02:57 am (UTC)(link)But he does use them as projectile weapons as well, just not in the same sense. I hope that makes sense, sorry if it came off strangely.

Out for Illumi. I'm canonblind so I had to depend on your canon section. I felt that you didn't really explain the voice so it made me unsure of what to look for in the sample. The sample itself felt disjointed. I also feel that you didn't really need the action tags.
