Character: Tani Chiaki
Series: Samurai Sentai Shinkenger
Character Age: 18
Canon: Set in modern day Japan, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger features a set of young samurai fighting to save the world from monsters called Gedoushuu. Each of these fighters are ruled by an element, having select powers that accompany this. During battle, they use various means of fight beyond their katana. Each has a respective weapon suited to their element, an animal mecha called Origami, and an inner energy called Mojikara. Through teamwork and personal growth, these samurai are able to overcome the destruction of the world.
Tani Chiaki is known as ShinkenGreen. Initially, Chiaki is nothing more than a kid who doesn’t show much interest in the samurai life or any of the training that’s associated with it. He’s the weakest member of the team and doesn’t outwardly show any signs of improvement. Once he starts to take training seriously, he is able to grow and realize what his shortcomings are. In doing so, he is able to find his strength in the team and prove to be a valuable member. One of Chiaki’s strong points is that he doesn’t have a rigid way of thinking. Having come from a background without strict training allows for more creativity during combat, which lends itself to off-the-cuff tactical strategies. Despite his growth, he never loses the side of him that would love to slack off of training. At times, he can act childish and cocky, but has shown that he is dedicated and loyal when it matters most.

Tell us about yourself in a few words.
I’m Tani Chiaki, eighteen. I’m one of the Shinkengers known as ShinkenGreen. Between bouts of saving the world, I’m your typical guy. From the outside, I’m sure I probably don’t look like a samurai, but take my word for it. One day I’ll be the one leading our group as the lord.
Why are you joining our happy community?
From what it sounds, I’ve been recruited to help fight monsters that have been terrorizing the Camp. I’m not fully sold on that whole zombie story, but this whole place sounds like it needs some help. I’m assuming with the whole “camp” part of this, there’s going to be training involved. I sure hope C.F.U.D. doesn’t stand for “Camp For Undisciplined Disciples.”
Do you think you are good in a crisis? Why?
You could say I am. I’ve gone through extensive training as a samurai to be good at handling tight situations. Not only that, I’m the type of person that’s pretty quick on his feet when under pressure. It’s not such a bad thing to spice up a fight with a few creative moves.
What if the crisis involved the end of the world? Please explain.
Considering we’ve made it through that exact situation and the world is still around, that should say a lot about the answer to this question. Wait, is this place under some type of attack? Have the Gedoushuu been threatening to open up Hell again? You’d think they’d learn by now that there will always be someone around to fight. Geez, this really isn’t a going to be a walk in the park.
Do you have a five year plan in mind?
Yes, but no. I do have plans for college, but I haven’t fully settled in on what route I’m going with it. I guess I’d prefer to keep my path open until I find what I’d really like to chase after. I guess my only real goal is to keep up my training and one day make it to the top. It’s great to aim high sometimes.
Can you swim? Yeah, but that’s not exactly my specialty.
- Could you still do it under extreme distress? Probably, but I never really had the reason to test my footing with distressed water sessions.
-- While dragging someone else to shore? Is this going to be on the test? Is this really a part of the Camp regiment?
--- While something, let’s say a tentacle, tries to drag you under? While I can’t say I haven’t had to deal with tentacles before, I’d rather avoid the water situation with that possibility.
---- How would you handle that situation? How about let’s not and say we did. I think we’re done here.

Chiaki here!
(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 06:06 am (UTC)(link)If I don't make it in, though, I'll try to elaborate deeper on the personality section to try to reflect that better.
Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it.
Re: Chiaki here!
In the (probably unlikely!) event you do have to reapp, maybe it would be helpful to devote separate paragraphs to training and characterization?
