Character: Karl C. Agathon, callsign “Helo”.
Series: Battlestar Galactica
Character Age: Late 20’s/Early 30’s
Job: Anthropomorphic Personification of a Conscience

Canon: Battlestar Galactica is the story of ragtag fleet of humanity searching for a new home while bad things happen to them on an almost hourly basis. And the super, terrible, bad thing that started it all was the return of the Cylons, a robotic race that turned on their human creators, who have evolved twelve models to look and feel just like humans. With the help of these human-like robots, the Cylons successfully nuke the twelve colony planets, forcing the surviving humans to flee while struggling with every shortage imaginable, difficult political and military situations, and the knowledge that anyone among them could be a Cylon that has infiltrated their ranks.

As you can imagine, most of humanity has a burning hatred for Cylons, but then there’s Karl “Helo” Agathon, an officer serving on the Galactica, who unwittingly falls in love with one and basically becomes “that guy who married a Cylon”. Which… doesn’t exactly make him popular. His easy-going, trusting, and genuinely caring nature makes him hard to hate, sure, but he’s sleeping with the enemy! Who cares about that big, squishy heart with an unrelenting moral compass underlying his muscly exterior! But no matter what, Helo’s always going to be the guy who’s going to look out for your emotional well-being while having your back in a fight, and if his overbearing conscience leads him to making some questionable decisions while kind of acting like a sanctimonious tool, well at least he was just trying to do “the right thing”.

Tell us about yourself in a few words.
Captain Karl Agathon of the Battlestar Galactica, Electronic Countermeasures Officer, callsign Helo. I’m also a married guy with a kid, and a great Triad player, if that kind of information is helpful.

Why are you joining our happy community?
It’s not by choice, if that’s what you’re asking. But I’ve made the best of a bad situation on more than one occasion, and hey, gods know we could all use a little more happiness and community in our lives. If I can help with that here and there, well, I think I owe it to everyone to do my godsdamned best. And to be honest, it looks like you could use a little help here. I’m no stranger to food shortage situations, believe me, but starving some citizens to the point of being almost skeletons for the sake of others? That’s just not right, and you can bet I’ll be speaking to someone about this.

What do you expect from the campers here?
Probably a little bit of confusion, maybe some hurt, I mean there’s got to be some feelings of mistrust. Being taken away from your home and the people you love, that’s not easy for anyone. I’m not saying I’m an expert on kids, my daughter’s only young, but we’ve all been at that stage in our lives, and I doubt this is how anyone would want it to be for themselves. So let’s all be friendly. Just not… too friendly. There’s a lot to be said about respecting someone’s personal space, even in close quarters, and the way I’ve seen some campers running away from some of the… less coordinated individuals here tells me there’s some work to be done.

What do you expect from the counselors?
I expect them to be people, you know? Just because you’re an “adult” doesn’t mean you’re infallible and suddenly all-knowing. If I’ve learned anything, it’s that we can be more frakked up than any kid at our lowest moments, so we’re all going to have to support each other through this.

Do you think you are good in a crisis? Why?
I’d say I’ve dealt with my fair share. I’ve survived this far, and the past four years have basically been crisis after crisis, so yeah, I’d say I’m good. You just have to keep a cool head, know when it’s time to talk and when the use of force is necessary. I come from a military background, so a lot of the time getting through a crisis means sticking to the plan and following your orders. But if you’re getting no joy, you also need to know when to disengage or deviate from said plan. I know that sounds like conflicting advice, but it’s worked for me so far, alright?

What if the crisis involved the end of the world? Please explain.
Hey, I was there. I saw it happen, up-close-and-personal, on the ground. When you see mushroom clouds like those in the horizon, you can pretty much count on that being the end. Could I have done better, saved more people? Maybe, and don’t think I never wonder. But sometimes you have to make the hard call with the limited resources you have, and that’s what’ll get you through a world-ending crisis. …well, that and the enemy duping you into thinking you’re one step ahead while they lead you into their honey trap. In retrospect, that could also have had something to do with my surviving on a nuked planet for so long.

Have you committed any crimes you were or should have been convicted from?
… all I can say is I’ve made my share of unpopular decisions, but I weighed the pros and the cons of what’s right and what’s wrong, and I did what I felt needed to be done. Did that ruffle a lot of feathers? Yeah, yeah it did. But I stand by my choices because they were the right things to do. People have called me a traitor, said I’ve been out of line, crossed boundaries, and yes, I may have single-handedly prevented the genocide of an entire race that had already tried – twice – to wipe us out, but I’m still walking around as a free man and I think that says something.

If there was a good dog and a criminal both hanging from a cliff and you could only save one, which would you save and why?
I’m not about to make a judgment on the criminal and say they deserve to die. Maybe they’re repentant and reformed, did you think about that? Or maybe what they did doesn’t even warrant that kind of label. Who’s to say they aren’t a resourceful dog-lover deep down? Look, I think it’s a definite possibility that if we worked together, there’s no reason we wouldn’t be able to pull through and save both. Some might think that’s naïve, but if we can’t have faith in each other, what’s the point?

What is your job here at CFUD? What do you think that means?
I don’t know. “Anthropomorphic Personification of a Conscience”? Sounds like someone’s having a laugh at my expense. Listen, I don’t care if I get crap for saying this, but following your heart? That’s not something be ashamed of, as long as you’re thinking about other people too. So if some of you need an extra nagging voice to help with that, I’d be more than happy to provide.

Character: Hinata Hajime
Series: Super Danganronpa 2
Character Age: Appears 16

Canon: When Hinata Hajime turned up to his first day at Hope’s Peak Academy it wasn’t quite what he expected. Teleported to a tropical island by a stuffed rabbit that claimed to be his teacher, Hinata thought things could not get weirder. Then another stuffed animal turned up with some very unwanted news. The only way to escape the tropical island is to kill someone! If anyone was murdered, then a trial would take place to determine who would be punished: the killer or the surviving classmates for failing to identify the killer. Caught up in an increasingly horrible scenario, Hinata and his classmates must solve the mysteries of who amongst them are killers or else be killed themselves.

Hinata is a pretty ordinary guy in comparison to his incredibly idiosyncratic classmates, and he is acutely aware of this. On first appearances, he is a pleasant, rather ordinary boy with a tendency to make sarcastic comments in his head (which are represented in the game like this), and sometimes he says these comments aloud. He’s blunt and impatient at times and prone to pointing out the ridiculousness of the situation he is in, but at his core he is kind, thoughtful and a genuinely optimistic person who believes in the good in people. He is also the most worrisome of the students and takes things to heart, which is not always a good thing when you’re stuck in Murder Island: The Game and you’re the one with any kind of deductive logic skills. Still, what’s a nervous breakdown or two between friends, right?

Sample Entry:

Tell us about yourself in a few words.
My name is Hinata Hajime. I hope we all get along while I’m here.

(Or at least that would be what I normally say. But this place... what can I even say? Nothing here makes any sense at all!)

Why are you joining our happy community?
Uh, I ... found myself here? I wish this was the first time that I could say that.

What do you expect from your camp experience?
Hopefully a peaceful camping trip that doesn’t involve anyone dying at all. Also absolutely no stuffed animals.

If there was a good dog and a criminal both hanging from a cliff and you could only save one, which would you save and why?
How do I know that they’re a criminal? I’ve only just met them. But I guess the answer is that I’d rescue the person and then they can rescue the dog.

Would you be able to dispose of the flesh of the undead? How?
I ... what? Is that what those people are? Zombies? And I thought this place could not make any less sense.

I don’t know how I’d dispose of zombie flesh. Fire?

Do you consider yourself squeamish? Please provide an example.
No. I don’t think anyone is squeamish who was on Jabberwock Island. If we were, we wouldn’t have survived as long as we did.

What do you expect from the counselors?
Not a lot. If they got here the same way I did, we’re probably equally screwed. Hopefully they have matches to deal with the zombies.

Can you swim? Y/N
Yes.
-Could you still do it under extreme distress? Y/N
Probably...? Why?
--While dragging someone else to shore? Y/N
I don’t know. I hope so, for their sake.
---While something, let’s say a tentacle, tries to drag you under? Y/N
What?
----How would you handle that situation?
How did this even happen? It doesn’t make logical sense. What animal would do that? And why?

What would you consider to be your “soul” animal and why? (this is for purely scientific purposes and will not have consequences during your stay at all. Trust us! :))
What ... what kind of survey is this?

Do you find these questions increasingly unnerving? Why/Why not?
I think anyone would find these questions unnerving...

HOLY POOP A HELO

Ahhh, Dangan Ronpa!

Hajime was my out. I feel like the app could have been fleshed out more! It's very bare bones as is and doesn't feel as direct as the character is. It didn't really feel like Hajime to me. Also, while I definitely get wanting to avoid spoilers, I would have liked to have seen some sort of mention or allusion to [Kamukura Izuru and the Ultimate Despair] in the canon section. It is kind of a big part of his character, especially if you're taking him from post-canon.

watch me screw up that spoiler font, just watch.

I avoided those mentions quite deliberately, I'm afraid! Most people are familiar with the Let's Play, which unfortunately cut off before the beginning of the chapter 3 trial. As that's when the real plot really kicks in, I didn't want to spoil anyone for that major twist, even by using spoiler tags. It is a pretty great twist, and I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone, even implicitly!

Hajime is a bit indirect on a first meeting (like in the prologue where the most he says about Usami directly is that they weren't asking for a definition), and it's when he loosens up around his classmates that he starts becoming more direct and blunt about things. That said, I can definitely make him more direct on a future attempt (if one is needed)!

I can understand why! It's tricky with these applications and giving the voter enough information on the character. That said, I do feel like it is omitting something that is pretty integral to this character. So even if you're not accidentally spoiling someone in the application, it still could come up in threads one way or another depending on where you pull him from, you know? It didn't affect my vote, but I found it curious. Both games are definitely tricky canons when it comes to that though.

Hmmmm, I didn't really read it like that? I did play the game when it first came out in September though, so it's been a bit. But that wasn't really the impression I got. He is a bit gunshy at first, but he also was passed out on the beach and being followed by Komaeda who is. Komaeda. I can see it, but I really would have liked to have seen more of the character. Like I said, the sample feels pretty bare bones to me!

That said, I really love these games and I am super hyped to see someone app from them! Best of luck to you!

Hajime was my out. I don't know the canon at all so I'm pretty canonblind, but the app itself seemed very bare bones; as in, I didn't feel like it portrayed enough of the character for a canonblind reader to get a feel for. I do like your canon section though! I just think there needs to be more in the sample. I think it's because your app hits around 231 words when it is technically supposed to be 300+ words or over. I feel like if there had been more then the app would have felt a lot more solid.

But, all in all, good luck!

IN for Karl.

Out for Hajime. Basically what the others said. I'm also canonblind so I found your canon section to be good! But with a personality like his, it sounds like the sample could be expanded more so we could have a better idea of who he is. Good luck!
